Jaime Saavedra is Sector Manager for the Poverty and Gender Group, Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Unit, Latin America and the Caribbean Region. He was Executive Director and Principal Researcher at Grupo de Analisis para el Desarollo (GRADE), a non-partisan think tank based in Lima. He has a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University in New York City; holds a Licenciatura and a B.A in Economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

His principal areas of work are on labor economics, educational economics and social policies. He has also taught economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and was visiting researcher at the University of Toronto’s Center for International Studies. He has been a member of the Peruvian National Council for Labor, the board of the Nutritional Research Institute, Principal Advisor to the Ministry of Labor and Social Promotion and a member of its Consultative Commission, as well as Alternate Director of the National Commission on the Small and Micro Enterprise. He has been President of the Executive Committee of the Network on Inequity and Poverty of the IADB-World Bank-LACEA, a board member of the Economic and Social Research Consortium, and done extensive consulting and research for the World Bank, IADB, ECLAC, the United Nations, ILO and the Peruvian ministries of Education, Labor and Industry.
